Christmas is VERY different in Thailand, considering most don't even celebrate this holiday, I have to work on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, and it is over 80 degrees and flooding. Not so Christmas cheery around these parts. But last week did feel a little bit like Christmas, when Stephan and I, along with some of the other foreigners living in Nakhon, went to the orphanage here in Nakhon and threw a little Christmas party for the orphans. It was the best way to get into the Christmas spirit. The orphanage consists of maybe over 100 little boys all eager for some lovin'. Seeing their little eyes light up as they got present after present and sugary snack after sugary snack, definitely helped putting this Christmas in a foreign country into perspective. We sang Christmas carols, gave them lots and lots of presents, played games, and then they got to watch a fire dancing show (which was obviously the coolest thing for them). They were so happy the whole time and it was so cute when the little ones would come up and grab your hand or when they would want to show you their new toy. Giving back to the sweet orphans definitely brought some Christmas cheer and made me realize that even though I do not get to be with my family for Christmas, I am still so lucky that I have a family that I can talk to on Christmas and that I can see in a few months or even a few days (ERIC AND BRIA!!), but these sweet kids have no family to ever see or ever get to talk to. We probably gave them the most loving they will get all holiday season. It is not about receiving gifts, but rather giving and sharing love no matter where you are in the world.
