A couple of weeks ago, Stephan and I hopped on a motorbike and drove the windy road to Pai. Pai is about 3 hours north of Chiang Mai. The motorbike adventure was so much fun! My butt cheeks were hating me by the end, but being out in the fresh, cool mountain air was amazing. And the views on the bike were so good. We even passed cows walking down the windy road at one point. Once we finally got to Pai, we were freezing, sore and starving, so we walked to the center of the tiny town and warmed up at the Witching Well. We slurped down some hot ginger tea and carrot soup. It was so perfect. I hadn't felt so cold and then so warm and fuzzy in so long. It put me right into the Christmas spirit.
We explored the night market that occurs every night and found some more delicious food. There was even street stalls with Indian food for about 40 Baht. Cheap Indian food is hard to come by in Chiang Mai!
Pai was freezing. Absolutely freezing! Living in a tropical climate, doesn't leave me with very warm clothes, so I was a big frozen goosebump the entire time we were there. We drove our motorbike all around the town and up the mountains. We found the most beautiful yellow wild flowers at the base of a mountain and of course we ran through them and snapped some pictures. We also drove up to a viewpoint where we could see out over Pai. It was beautiful. Sunflowers were everywhere and you could see out onto the valley and the rice fields.
It was really nice to get out of Chiang Mai for a few days and out into some clean crisp air. Pai is a tiny little hippy town that is full of backpackers, but it is a fun place to go for a relaxing weekend. I would love to go again when it is warmer and go hiking and check out the waterfalls!
