Ninh Binh, Vietnam// Bai Dinh Temple

Stephan and I didn't do much planning for our trip through Vietnam, we just followed a rough itinerary that most seem to follow when traveling from North to South. Ninh Binh wasn't on most people's itinerary, but it seemed to be a really great place to stop, if you had the time. We had plenty of time, so we decided to head to Ninh Binh after Halong Bay. Ninh Binh is sometimes nicknamed dry Halong Bay, because it has the limestone cliffs that Halong Bay has, but they are jutting out of rice paddies rather than water.

Our time in Ninh Binh was so fun! It was rainy and cold and there were very few tourists. We stayed at a small guest house where we rented a motorbike one day and then bicycles the next day.

Our first day we went to Bai Dinh Temple. The people at our guest house recommended it. We drove the motorbike out of town to the temple. The views on the way were stunning. Once we arrived we hiked up to the temple complex. This complex is huge and is actually considered the biggest Buddhist temple complex in Vietnam. We spent hours here, not even on purpose. We generally aren't ones to spend hours at one place, but this place was just so huge you had to spend a lot of time there to see everything. Here are some pictures if you'd like to see:
